About Me

Books? No way, it's too hard. English being my second language I never really expected me to see my "read" pile going up. Yes, sure, I read some books in Portuguese. At school I had to read all the classic literature (no, not Shakespeare or Jane Austen), Brazilian literature. I'm not saying Brazilians can't write, it's just that pages of endlessly describing a walk in a forest is just not fun. I hated every page. I once read a small young adult book with a bit of romance that made me cry. I think I read it like 3 times. I loved it. I just don't understand how I didn't look for more of the kind. I guess they weren't so available to me back then.

Then I read Lord of the Rings in Portuguese. That was okay (back then, now I say it was awesome!) . I read a few other books that were recommended to me like The Magician, and then I came across some really good ones like Mao's Last Dancer, The Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter. I knew then that I enjoyed reading, and since I was reading them in English I wasn't doing so bad either. I just found so hard to find books I enjoyed. Once in a while I find a book that I didn't want to finish (even if I hate it, I usually finish it), then I'd quit reading all together.

Then... that was Twilight....

And it changed my life! Well, not that I thought I'd find my Edward, or pretend to be a vampire. (I'm all grown up). I found the genre of books I couldn't go wrong with. I fell in love with the Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy books.

I've heard of a lot of people saying the same thing. They love Twilight because it got them back to reading books. I read the whole saga 4 times in couple of months. Then I read the Sookie Stackhouse books.  I was hooked. Those were books worth reading again and again, but in the back of my mind I'm like "quick, quick, there are other books to read as well".

I work full time, I'm a mother of 2 boys, one of them at school. I wake a bit earlier in the morning so I can read before I have to get my boys ready for the day. I listen to audiobooks on my drive to and from work and  at the gym. I read on my lunch break. I read at night before bed. On the weekends, I read as much as I can (while trying to not piss off  hubby too much for lying on  the couch all the time). I love, love, love, books!
